Louise Giovanelli

Orbiter is part of Giovanelli's Icon series. Depicting women in frozen moments of movement, this series investigates the viewing mechanism associated with images of contemporary iconic female figures. Sourced from film, music videos and photograph of celebrities, each painting in this series is cropped tight to the subject implying a sense of confinement. Giovanelli’s figurative works are halted at a moment of imminent drama, at a threshold between states. In Orbiter, the woman in the picture is enigmatic and ambiguous, simultaneously corporeal and rapturous - her identity is secondary to the idea that her images stands for.
