About this work
Stuffed animal horses and ponies—both real and simulated—served as a recurring aesthetic motif for Smith, sometimes surfacing in promotional imagery around the release of her landmark 1975 debut album, Horses. This particular Coney Island boardwalk prop became an iconic piece of pop culture and art history.
