graduate Laura Lancaster
cemented her reputation
as one of the North East's
leading young artists in 2008.
Throughout the year the
Hartlepool-born artist has exhibited
in many high profile international
museum and gallery exhibitions
alongside some of the world's leading
artIStS.
These included the exhibitions
Micro Narratives at St Etienne
Museum of Modern Art; Mediations
at the Poznan Biennial in Poland;
Behind at Monitor Gallery, Rome; Zoo
Art Fair at The Royal Academy in
London; and most notably Ego
Documents at the Kunstmuseum
Bern.
As part of this exhibition Laura was
*offered a month long residency at the
museum in which she created a new
epic scale drawing installation
comprised of 103 images painted and
drawn onto the pages and dust
covers or second hand books she has
collected. The subject is a photo
album from the late 60s that Laura
purchased at Spitalfields Market in
London's East End documenting two
years in the lite of one woman.
Laura is thrilled to be nominated
for the Journal Culture Award for
Visual Artist of the Year. She says:
