Kristy M Chan (b.1997, Hong Kong) is a painter living and working in London. Her expansive, gestural canvases are richly layered meditations on the human experience. Through thick, vigorous brushstrokes and intersecting curves, her use of light and shadow maps her exploration of the complexities of "homeland" while navigating diverse cultural landscapes. Her lively use of oil paints — intuitively manipulated, layered, and rearticulated over months, recalls the spirit of Abstract Expressionism and the global diaspora experience.
Chan received her MA in Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London in 2020 and her BFA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2019. Selected exhibitions include Immaterial, Soho Revue, London, UK (2025); The Cloud Catcher, Perrotin, Shanghai, China (2025); Night Studio, Tabula Rasa Gallery, Beijing, China (2024); Molehill Mountaineer, The Cabin, Los Angeles, US (2023); Untalely, Tabula Rasa Gallery, Beijing, China (2023); Bordercrossing: Possibilities and Interactions, Yuz Museum, Shanghai, China (2023); Women in Abstraction, What’s Up / Hong Kong, Hong Kong (2023); Immersed, curated by Jack Siebert, Los Angeles, US (2023); Lightness of Being, Kwai Fung Hin, Hong Kong, Hong Kong (2023); Tabula Rasa: Unveiled, No.9 Cork Street, London, UK (2023); Binge, The Artist Room and Simon Lee Gallery, London, UK (2022); Strong Cookie, Prior Art Space, Berlin, Germany (2022); Totally Not, The Artist Room, London, UK (2021).
