Exploring themes of identity, physical and spiritual wellness, self-actualisation and self-doubt, Michael Stamm’s practice playfully oscillates between distanced, abstract contemplation and erratic, self-conscious confession.
Michael Stamm (b.1983, Evanston, IL) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BA from Wesleyan University, his MA in English Literature from Columbia University, and his MFA from New York University. Recent solo exhibitions include “so super sorry sir”, Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles; Mediation Inc., DC Moore Gallery, New York; and Just Like This Please, Thierry Goldberg Gallery, New York.
Recent group exhibitions include: Equal Affections, Grimm Gallery, Amsterdam; Contemporary Domesticity, Taymour Granhe, London; and Psycho, Easthampton Shed, Brooklyn, New York. He received the NYFA Fellowship in Painting in 2018. In 2019 he was the Visiting Critic, New York Academy of Art, NY.
