Salvatore Pione (b.1995, Sicily, Italy) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working between Sicily and London. Pione’s practice explores themes of labour, materiality, and identity, often drawing on traditional artisanal techniques as a means of connecting with his Sicilian heritage. In his work, craft becomes both a cultural bridge and a quiet act of resistance. Through a queer lens, he reflects on the impact of gender, class, and religion on his upbringing in Catholic Southern Italy. His use of materials serves as a way to reclaim stories, challenge authority, and create space for alternative narratives.
Pione holds a degree in 2D Animation from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Turin in 2014, a BA from Camberwell College of Arts in 2021, and an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2024. Recent exhibitions include Folgore, Lychee One, London, UK (2025); Ercolina, General Assembly, London, UK (2025); Visions, Gallery Rosenfeld, London, UK (2025); Deus Ex Machina, The Bomb Factory Art Foundation, London, UK (2024); Buried, OHSH Projects, London, UK (2024); Homodeus, Fondazione San Fedele, Milan, Italy (2023); Fantasmagorie, Andrea Festa Fine Art, Rome, Italy (2023); Hemispheres, AliceBlack Gallery, London, UK (2023); Don’t Panic Part:1, Southwark Park Galleries, London, UK (2020).
In 2025, he received the Gilbert Bayes Award for Sculpture, was awarded a studio grant residency at Sarabande Foundation, and completed a residency at Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy.
