Material Girl brings together eleven contemporary artists whose works engage with materiality as an idea, examining how images evoke texture, excess, and desire, rather than relying on physical matter alone. The exhibition considers painting as a site where material culture, symbolism, and visual language intersect. The participating artists, Filippo Cegani, Rachel Clancy, Thomas van Dun, Minyoung Kim, Robin Megannity, Irina Patrusheva, Lennart Rieder, Robin Speijer, Rebecca Storm, Camille Theodet, and Tian Teng, explore representations of surface, opulence, and constructed realities. Through figuration, abstraction, and stylized imagery, their works reflect on materialism as a cultural condition shaped by consumption, fantasy, labor, and identity.

The exhibition centers on artistic approaches that engage materiality as both a technique and a concept, highlighting how skill is articulated through surface, form, and visual construction. While each artist addresses this focus in their own way, the works are presented in relation to one another, creating an internal dialogue within the gallery. Moving between attraction and critique, Material Girl invite us to consider how painting can simulate texture, value, and excess. Through image-making, it questions what we desire, how we consume, and the meanings we project onto material things, encouraging viewers to remain attentive to the shifting meanings that arise between the works.
